The year is 2001, and a group of free-thinking software engineers met at the top of a mountain (literally) and wrote something called the Agile Manifesto for Software Development.

The product of their work goes something like this:

We are uncovering better ways of developing software by doing it and helping others do it. Through this work we have come to value:

Individuals and interactions over processes and tools

Working software over comprehensive documentation

Customer collaboration over contract negotiation

Responding to change over following a plan

That is, while there is value in the items on the right,
we value the items on the left more.

Of course, this manifesto became the bedrock for the Agile methodology we all know and understand today. It’s a great story, and you can still read the manifesto in its original form here: http://agilemanifesto.org.

They are my type of people . . . Technology nerds who loved their craft and weren’t willing to settle for the old ways of doing things.

They sensed something was wrong with the way software was made, so they decided to do something about it. And, true to form, they didn’t start with anything fancy.

They started with an MVP called “Lightweight methods.” It was only later that it became known as Agile.

In sum, this is what I have tried to do in my new book, 10x Marketing Formula.

Now, I don’t claim to be as brilliant as these guys. This was a team of seventeen professionals in the mountains.

I’m just one founder with an eye for marketing on the open plains of North Dakota (yes, North Dakota).

Hardly a consensus.

Nonetheless, consider this my contribution in the race for results-oriented marketing.

The 11 Traits of a 10x Marketer

Now, I won’t be so bold as to write my own manifesto . . . But if I were to try, here are the eleven characteristics of the 10x marketer I would hope to present:

  1. 10x marketers work in a “Results or die!” oriented business. No 10 percenters allowed.
  2. 10x marketers are creative problem solvers, but not creatives. We value wins, not laughs.
  3. 10x marketers know it isn’t about working a plan; it’s about working ideas to produce results.
  4. 10x marketers understand that growth requires failure. Strength is in progress, not perfection.
  5. 10x marketers always think and prioritize 10x. They forget 10 percent.
  6. 10x marketers always have a badass editorial calendar fueled by 10x projects.
  7. 10x marketers know ideas are only as good as their ability to execute them.
  8. 10x marketers consistently create the best content on the whole damn Internet.
  9. 10x marketers run teams that learn and adapt, not mindlessly execute “the plan.”
  10. 10x marketers consistently see and test their assumptions against actual results.
  11. 10x marketers always orbit and grow their one metric that matters.

Why This Will Work

Essentially, becoming a 10x marketer is a commitment to results over everything else.

The ethos truly is results-or-die! And it will continually serve tenfold growth in any niche, industry, vertical, or context.

The 10x Marketing Formula is a deep dive into the why, what, and how of becoming this kind of marketer.
